Henkel India Opens Inclusive Skill Centre in Pune

Skil Development

Pune, October 29, 2026: Henkel India has inaugurated a Skill Development Center in partnership with Navkshitij at Marunji, Pune, as part of its corporate social responsibility commitment to inclusion and skill development.

The facility is intended to provide vocational learning, STEM education and life-skills opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities aged 10 years and above.

The initiative seeks to support confidence, independence and practical learning through structured activities and accessible training facilities.

Expanding Opportunities for Inclusive Education

Inclusive education involves creating learning opportunities that recognise differences in individual abilities, requirements and learning approaches.

For individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, conventional classroom environments may not always provide sufficient opportunities for practical skill development.

Vocational programmes can complement academic education by helping participants become familiar with everyday activities and productive tasks.

Henkel’s collaboration with Navkshitij is intended to provide such opportunities through a dedicated learning environment.

Practical Skills at the Centre of the Programme

According to the company, the centre has been equipped with machinery and training equipment supporting multiple vocational activities.

These include plate making, camphor making and incense-stick production.

Participants will also receive exposure to laundry and ironing activities using washing machines and ironing equipment.

Additional moulding equipment will allow learners to create diyas and pots.

Such activities can introduce participants to practical processes while encouraging creativity, coordination and confidence.

The programme is intended to accommodate learning needs and support gradual skill development.

STEM Education and Life Skills

Beyond vocational activities, the initiative incorporates STEM education and life-skills development.

STEM learning can introduce participants to concepts associated with science, technology, engineering and mathematics through appropriately designed activities.

Life-skills programmes may also help learners develop greater familiarity with everyday responsibilities and social participation.

The effectiveness of these activities depends on suitable instruction, accessibility and adaptation to individual needs.

Creating a Community Learning Space

The newly developed facility also includes a multipurpose hall.

According to Henkel, the space will be available for cultural programmes, creative activities, community gatherings and group engagement sessions.

This element is important because inclusion involves more than vocational training.

Social interaction, creative expression and community participation can contribute to confidence and a sense of belonging.

A multipurpose learning environment can provide opportunities for participants to interact with peers and engage in activities beyond formal instruction.

Sustainability Through Solar Infrastructure

The facility also includes a solar installation.

Although the company has not disclosed the system’s generation capacity in the announcement, incorporating solar infrastructure introduces a sustainability component to the project.

Community development facilities increasingly have opportunities to combine educational objectives with environmentally responsible infrastructure choices.

Corporate Social Responsibility and Long-Term Impact

Corporate social responsibility initiatives can provide support for educational and community programmes that require specialised infrastructure.

Partnerships between companies and social organisations may help expand access to equipment, training facilities and development opportunities.

However, long-term success depends on sustained programme management, trained educators and measurable benefits for participants.

Providing a physical facility is an important beginning, but consistent learning and development outcomes remain essential.

Henkel’s Role in the Initiative

Henkel India has positioned the centre as part of its commitment to creating opportunities for individuals with different abilities.

The inauguration was attended by representatives of Henkel and Navkshitij, including members of the company’s CSR team and the organisation’s trustees.

The project reflects an approach in which corporate resources are combined with the experience of a community organisation serving individuals with specialised learning needs.

Why Inclusive Skill Development Matters

Accessible educational opportunities can contribute to greater independence and meaningful social participation.

For learners with intellectual and developmental disabilities, programmes that recognise individual strengths and provide suitable support may create opportunities to develop confidence and practical capabilities.

Inclusive vocational education also highlights the importance of understanding progress according to individual circumstances rather than applying identical expectations to every participant.

The Road Ahead

The Henkel-Navkshitij centre represents an effort to combine practical training, community participation and inclusive learning in one location.

Its value will ultimately depend on how effectively the programme responds to the needs of its participants over time.

As companies continue developing social responsibility initiatives, partnerships focused on accessibility and skill development offer opportunities to make community programmes more inclusive and sustainable.
